I have been SO M.I.A. and for that, I am deeply sorry. It’s been a hectic time, and I’ve been trying to start the new year with an open mind and focus on my academics and my own mental and physical health. It’s my last semester of senior year so that feeling of a lot of “lasts” has been creeping up on me. With that being said, I don’t ever want a blog post to be a “last” so today I’m writing to remind you all that I’m still here and I still LOVE StyLin. In the new year, I’ve developed a new passion for skincare. I ‘ve been trying out so many new products that I feel compelled to share with you all because they’re just THAT good! Below are a few of my favorites that I’ve incorporated into my daily morning and nighttime routines. I highly highly recommend each of these products for normal/ oily skin! If you have any questions about specific products feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an e-mail!
Yes, it’s been a while. Like I say every post, it’s been a CRAZY time. I honestly just cannot wait for school to be over and to be able to relax, focus on my career, and StyLin of course!
Today I am writing about skincare if you couldn’t already tell by the title. Skincare is a recent love of mine, so I am in no way claiming to be an expert. However, I’ve watched my fair share of youtube videos and had many chats with the lovely women at Sephora and the beauty counters at Nordstrom. I’ve also been consistently using the products I’m sharing today and they are all my honest opinions.
As we all know, no matter what your skin type it typically fluctuates between seasons. For me, my skin gets pretty dry, even though I have combination skin. So, to fight this I’ve been slowly but surely building my skincare regimen. If you’re interested in the products I use, keep on reading and head to your local Sephora or Nordstrom to get some samples and try out these products!
Step 1. Remove Makeup
I always begin by removing my makeup. I don’t know about you all, but I think removing makeup is one of the MOST satisfying things ever. I’m not sure why, but there’s just something about removing all of the days wear and grime. To remove my makeup I typically use my Garnier micellar water and a large cotton round and gently rub off my makeup. However, if I’m feeling especially lazy I use a Neutrogena makeup wipe. I try to avoid this though, because it usually ends up leaving residue on my face.
Step 2. Cleanse and Tone
Now that my makeup is off, I go in with my Olehenriksen oil balance control cleanser. This stuff has worked miracles for me. I use it day and night. I swear I’ve already gone through three bottles of this stuff. It leaves your skin feeling so soft and helps reduce my daily oil. One I’m done cleansing, I apply my toner using a smaller cotton round and let it dry.
BONUS STEP: Sheet Masks
When I’m in need of a little pick me up, whether I have a noticibley large amount of blackheads or my skin looks dull I LOVE doing sheet masks. They’re so relaxing, and force you to carve out just a small portion of time to relax. I always do this right after I use toner, just because the toner acts as prep for the mask. Below are my current favorites!
Step 3. Apply Oil/ Serum
After my toner is dry, I gently apply my Caudalie vinosource nightly oil. To apply this I warm up 6 drops on my fingertips and then rub it onto my face lightly. It has significantly changed my skin. I wake up every morning and my skin feels super hydrated, brighter, and glowy! It’s fabulous! This is also the time you would apply serum. Currently, I’m only using the oil, however, I highly recommend the Caudalie serum as well. As it is a serum it has a more lotion-like texture. I’ve also been wanting to try the Olehenrisken truth serum, so if any of you have tried it leave a comment below letting me know what you think!
Step 4. Moisturize
Once I apply my oil, I take my Olhenriksen counterbalancing cream and gently rub that all over my face. I then blend the excess onto my neck! This stuff smells great and always leaves me with a cool and refreshed feeling on my face.
Step 5. Overnight Mask
Technically you could be done after that step and go straight to applying spot treatment. However, three times a week I like to apply an overnight mask for extra hydration. This really helps me fight my dry winter skin, and it just feels luxurious! Some of my current favorites are the Origins drink up overnight mask, the Glow recipe watermelon mask, and the Laneige water sleeping mask. I typically just rotate all three. For more intense hydration and a more peel like consistency, I reach for the watermelon mask. For a mask that just feels like thicker moisturizer, I reach for the Origins or the Laneige.
Step 6. Spot Treatment
I mentioned in my last skincare routine post the Kate Sommerville eradicate spot treatment. I am STILL loving this product. Like I said before, it’s very comparable to the Mario Badescu spot treatment, but I think this one is a bit stronger. It’s amazing at zapping those unwanted pimples for clearer skin.
Hopefully, you made it to the end of this post! That concludes my updated winter skincare routine. I hope you enjoyed this post and feel inspired to update your routine! If you have any products you recommend I would love for you to leave a comment below so I can try it out! Talk soon. Xo, L!
Today’s post is all about my every day makeup routine! I try to keep it as natural as possible and incorporate as many drugstore products as I can.
Primer, Foundation, and Concealer
I always start by completing my skincare routine which you can read about here. After I’m done moisturizing I apply my Maybelline Baby Skin primer followed by my Bobbi Brown foundation stick. To apply the foundation I “draw” lines on my face with the stick. I typically do 3 lines on my cheeks, one across my chin, one across my cupids bow, one down my nose, and 2 big ones on my forehead. Then, I use the flat top brush from my Sonia Kashuk brush set and blend it out. After, I use my NYX HD Concealer and apply it in triangles under my eyes and use a damp beauty blender to blend.
Next, I take my Benefit Gimme Brow and brush it onto my eyebrows. Its basically like mascara for your eyebrows! I love it because it makes them a bit fuller without looking over done. It’s also super easy and takes less focus than filling your brows in with a liner or gel.
Blush, Bronzer, and Highlighter
I then go in with my Physicians formula bronzer or my Wet N Wild bronzer and apply it to the hallows underneath my cheek bones, my jaw line, the sides of the bridge of my nose and a bit on my forehead (imagine brushing a number 3 on your face). Then, I go in with my MAC bronzer/blush and apply it to the apples of my cheeks. Lastly, I use either my Becca highlight in ‘Champagne Pop’ or my MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in ‘Soft and Gentle’ to highlight right above my blush (on the cheekbone). Then, I place a little on the tip of my nose and my cupids bow.
To complete my daily makeup routine, I use the L’oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara in waterproof black. Before I apply the mascara I use my hairdryer to heat up my Tarte eyelash curler for 5 seconds. It makes my lashes fuller and makes the curl last throughout the day. I have the most stubborn eyelashes (I think it’s an Asian thing) so finding a mascara that I love is really rare. However, I can confidently say that the L’oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara is solid gold.
I usually like to keep my look super natural and avoid putting on lip product. I typically like to swipe on a coat of chapstick and call it good, BUT when I am feeling a bit more fancy I always find myself reaching for nude lip colors. I love the matte lip creams from NYX in the shades ‘Cannes’ and “Abu Dhabi” as well as the MAC lipstick in ‘Velvet Teddy.”
Dealing with Oily Skin
To combat my oily skin I heavily rely on my daily face cleansing routine because the products I use are specifically formulated to fight off the oily-ness. Yet, I still manage to get oily every day, especially towards the end. I like to use my ELF blotting wipes and then powder with my ELF complexion perfection. These two products make it super easy to avoid oily and cakey looking makeup.
I hope everyone is having a great end of summer and feels inspired to try out some new makeup products! xo. L
Today is my day off and I decided to do a bonus post for you all! Clear skin is something I’ve struggled with since high school. I may not have severe acne but I definitely get consistent spots on my face. I think with time my skin has improved for two reasons: 1) with age my hormones have balanced out, and 2) I’ve learned the value of skin care! Today’s post is all about how I’ve revamped my skincare routine to make my skin clearer and more manageable.
Every night (and morning) I use my Olehenriksen skin set. I use the cleanser, toner (not drying AT ALL), and moisturizer. If you’ve been searching for a great skin set and you have oily/combination skin I HIGHLY recommend this product. This set claims to fight oiliness, large pores, and acne and blemishes. A great way to give it a test is to purchase the “Balance It All Essentials Set” for $35. My favorite thing about these products is they leave your skin feeling so refreshed and cooled. A perfect sensation to start or end the day! Another plus is that the set is formulated without any parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
At night after I go through my routine with the Olehenriksen skin set I use my Khiels avocado eye cream followed by my Kate Sommerville Eradikate spot treatment. The eye cream helps reduce my under eye circles and makes me feel super fresh. The spot treatment helps dry out and eradicate my pimples! Lovely, I know.
There you have it! Those are my routine and consistently repurchased skincare products. Not super exciting I know, but if you’ve been on the search for new products I strongly suggest purchasing these! Talk soon! xo! L
